Versioning in practice

  • Advertise every protocol and contract version you support in discovery; the Consumer picks the highest you both support.
  • Within a major line, only make additive changes (new optional fields, looser constraints). For a breaking change, publish a new contract_version and keep the old one resolvable for at least 180 days (§11).
  • Echo the negotiated version on responses (SDI-Contract-Version) so mismatches are obvious.
