Governance

SDI is an open, vendor-neutral standard. It is stewarded by Admissio.

Admissio — steward of SDI

Admissio created SDI to remove the manual re-keying of admitted applicants between admissions systems and school management systems, and publishes it openly so any vendor can implement it.

As the standard’s steward (§2.3), Admissio:

  • publishes and versions this specification;
  • runs the conformance and certification programme and holds the certification mark;
  • signs the software statements that anchor registration trust (§6.1.2);
  • maintains the standard’s registries (e.g. the identifier-scheme registry, §9.3).

The standard is open and free to implement — no permission, fee, or membership is required. Certification and the marks are optional and, per §15.2, never a precondition for two systems interoperating. Anyone may build an SDI Provider or Consumer from this specification.

SDI changes through an explicit, advertised contract version (§11): backward- compatible additions extend the interface without breaking existing integrations, and breaking changes move the major version. Providers advertise the versions they support in their discovery document, so a Consumer always knows what it is talking to.

SDI improves through implementer feedback. To propose a capability, flag an ambiguity, or report an issue in the specification, contact the steward at sdi@admissio.app.
